550,000 Fewer Youth Vaping
According to the United States Centers for Disease Control’s (“CDC”) Tobacco Free branch, youth use of vapor products is in sharp decline. The National Youth Tobacco Survey reveals that 550,000 fewer youth reached for a vape in 2024, marking the lowest youth tobacco product use in 25 years! These plain facts directly refute the prospect that teen vaping is an “epidemic” running rampant in schools across the country.
Anti-vape activists work tirelessly to push the lie that young adults are clouding out school bathrooms with vape at levels unseen before, which is clearly refuted by the very same sources they cite. One does not have to look far to realize that these arguments against “illicit” flavored vape devices quickly fall flat. Take for example a survey taken of students in Vermont just last year. Of students who use vapor products, only 2% of them cite compelling flavors as the reason why.
Yes, vapor products are the number one nicotine product used by young adults, but this should come as no surprise as cigarette sales have plunged dramatically, declining even faster since the introduction of nicotine vaping. Cigarette sales have dropped nearly 73% in just over 40 years, paving the way for a true smoke-free future.
With serious, life-threatening issues like the opioid epidemic lingering, far too much emphasis is being placed on the proliferation of vape. Young adults are clearly listening to messaging showing the harms of smoking, while responsible adults flock to a safer alternative. It’s time to get priorities straight and understand that new means of nicotine delivery are simply the latest victims of moral panic.
